How we work

No silence, no surprises, no drifting invoice.

The two things that go wrong on software projects are cost and communication. So we fix the price before anything is built, and we show you working software every two weeks until it is done.

The four stages

What actually happens, week by week.

Every project runs this way, whether it is a six week job or a six month one. Only the scale changes.

01

Working out what you need

1 TO 2 WEEKS

We spend time with the people who will use the system, watching how the work happens today. Not a workshop full of managers describing how it is supposed to happen, the actual desk where the spreadsheet lives. That is where the real requirements are.

You end this stage with a written scope, a fixed price and a set of dates. If we think the project is a bad idea, this is where we say so, and it costs you nothing.

Designing it before building it

1 TO 3 WEEKS

Technical drawings being marked up by hand at a workbench

You see every screen as a design, and we agree the data model behind them. This is the cheapest point in the whole project to change your mind, and we push you to use it.

Moving a button on a drawing takes an afternoon. Moving it after the system is built can take a fortnight and touch six other things.

Building, in the open

THE BULK OF THE PROJECT

Every fortnight you get a private link to a working version and a short call to walk through it. You use it, you tell us what is wrong, and we adjust. There is never a point where you are waiting in the dark wondering what you have paid for.

The code goes into a repository you control from the first week, so you can see the work as it happens and you are never dependent on us handing it over later.

Handover, done properly

1 TO 2 WEEKS

We train the people who will use it and the people who will run it. You get written documentation aimed at the engineer who inherits the system, not a formality nobody reads.

Then support is a separate agreement that you can start, change or end. The system does not stop working if you stop paying us, and nothing is held back to make leaving difficult.

What we commit to

Five promises, written into the contract.

These are not aspirations on a website. They go in the agreement you sign, so you can hold us to them.

A hand ticking items off a handwritten checklist in a notebookWritten down, ticked off, and in the agreement

The price does not move

The quote is fixed against the agreed scope. If you ask for something new, we price it separately and you decide. You will not open an invoice you did not expect.

The code is yours from week one

In your repository, under your account, from the start. Not delivered at the end as a favour, and not held as leverage.

You see progress every fortnight

A working link and a short call. If a deadline is going to slip, you hear it from us early, with a plan, not in the final week.

You deal with the people building it

No account manager relaying messages. You talk to the architect and the engineers who are actually writing your system.

We will tell you not to build it

If a cheaper tool already solves your problem, we will say so, even though it costs us the work. It is a shorter conversation than an unhappy client in month four.

Your work stays confidential

We sign your NDA before the first proper conversation if you want. We never publish a client name or screenshot without written permission.

Our own systems

We do not publish client work. We can show you ours.

Client projects sit under confidentiality agreements, and we do not put names or screenshots on a website to win the next job. What we can hand you is the software we built for ourselves, which is running in public and which you can inspect right now.

The trading terminal

A subscriber platform with accounts, billing, live market data and two engines executing on real money. Software that handles money in real time is unforgiving, which is exactly why we build it.

Registration, payments, subscription management and account controls. We built it rather than renting a third party service, because that would have meant handing our customers’ data to somebody else.

Want to speak to a client instead? We can arrange a reference call with a customer working in a similar area to yours, once we have their permission. Ask for it during the first conversation and we will set it up.

Cost

Roughly what things cost.

Every project is quoted properly after we understand it. These ranges are here so you know whether it is worth starting the conversation.

Focused tool

One job, done well

A single internal tool, an integration between two systems, or a small portal. Usually 6 to 10 weeks.

R60k to R180k
Full system

The most common project

A complete internal system or customer portal with accounts, permissions, reporting and integrations. Usually 3 to 5 months.

Guide range
R180k to R650k
Platform

Business critical

A platform the business runs on, or a staged move off legacy software with data migration. 6 months and up.

Guide ranges only, in South African rand, excluding VAT. Your fixed quote comes after the first stage, and it is the number you pay.

Next step

Thirty minutes will tell you whether this is worth doing.

The first call costs nothing and there is no proposal deck. You describe the problem, we ask questions, and you leave knowing roughly what it would take.
